Now in its fourth year, Devon Life's Home Cook of the Year is once again being held at the Bradburys of Exeter showroom in its luxury ALNO working kitchen. The competition will see contestants create a three-course menu, which showcases a celebration of local and seasonal Devon produce, and compete to win some wonderful prizes.

This year, the six finalists, along with friends, family and members of the public are invited to attend an exciting and informative demonstration day at Bradburys of Exeter, in which they will get an excellent opportunity to explore this stylish, modern ALNO kitchens and fabulous Miele appliances ahead of the final in October. They will also be able to pick up some great advice and skills from Sven-Hanson Britt, Miele’s Executive Chef and MasterChef: The Professionals 2014 finalist, who will be giving a talk on how to prepare and cook under pressure for a competition, along with general tips on presentation.

Also, joining us on the day will be popular local seafood restaurant chain, Rockfish, twice named ‘Best Independent Restaurant’ at the national fish and chip awards.  Rockfish serve sustainable seafood and will be giving contestants tips and ideas on cooking with fresh, local fish.

Family-run farm, Shillingford Organics, will be here to discuss local organic, seasonal vegetables. Based on the outskirts of Exeter, they have been running their organic vegetable box scheme since 2001, and have recently won this year’s BOOM award for ‘Best Organic Box Scheme’.  Shillingford Organics grow a wide range of organic vegetables, salad, herbs, fruit and eggs ‘with care and consideration, adopting many methods which encourage a natural balance’.

Having recently won a Gold 'Taste of the West Award', La Petite Bouchee are hugely popular and are gaining plenty of attention with their new Devon venture. The French Food Supper Club Restaurant in Witheridge, serves ‘locally sourced produce from Devon’s wondrous larder’, and one of the owners, Anita-Clare, will be chatting to contestants on that day about her obvious passion for this topic.

We are also very excited to have last year’s reigning champion, Emy Mordue coming along.  Emy will be available informally to offer moral support to finalists and answer any questions they may have on taking part in the competition.

Devon Life magazine and Bradburys of Exeter are looking forward to welcoming guests to this vibrant and fun event.  There will be refreshments available, so come along, enjoy the day and see our high-quality kitchens in action.
